Argo Publishing: An evening with the work of Cormac McCarthy and his translators

Cormac McCarthy, a giant of American literature, the author of such world-famous works as The Road, This Land Is Not for Old Men and All the Pretty Horses, died this June at the age of ninety. Just six months before his death, he published his last two books after a fifteen-year hiatus: the novel diptych The Passenger and Stella Maris. The Passenger was published by Argo in Czech translation this August, while Stella Maris will be published after the New Year.

The first of these books will be officially launched on 12 December at Unijazz in the presence of its translator, Englishman, essayist and university teacher Ladislav Nagy. He will be joined by editor and translator Petr Onufer to discuss his translation, as well as McCarthy's life and work in its entirety, and Michal Svěrák, author of the first Czech McCarthy monograph, The World in a Handful of Dust.

The musical accompaniment will be provided by Tomáš Pácalt.

Books will be available for purchase on site.

Free admission.
