Mirek Kemel trio + Neúspěšný Atlet
Mirek Kemel Trio will perform in the Unijazz Reading Room together with the musical group Neúspěšný Atlet. In 2024, the two musical ensembles met at a fundraising event in Horní Počernice and it was a very nice meeting. We believe that it will be no different in the Unijazz Reading Room.
Mirek Kemel has been a musician since his youth, although his first album An angel walked through the countryside published in 2011. After the successful album Wolf tracks (2021), directed by Petr Ostrouchov, released a fresh album this November Mordyjé. The Czech cultural public knows Mirek Kemel as the author of cartoon vitpics glossing Czech and world political and cultural events. However, in his musical work he tends to gravitate towards seriousness, introspection, poetic images and life situations portrayed with a quick narrative shortcut. Over the years, Mirek Kemel has grown into a singer-songwriter who is a joy to listen to, no matter which of his ensembles he plays in. At the Unijazz Reading Room he will perform in a trio with Tomas Görtler (accordion, keyboards) and Vlastimil Konopiski (guitars).
"Beautiful, absolutely unreasonable and unprofitable music. Music with no hope of royalties." This is how the poet Václav Hrabě characterized the work of the band Neúspěšný atlet. Since its inception in 2002, the band has released four studio albums capturing its inspiration from Czech rock of the 1990s (Garage, Hudba Praha, Mňága s Žďorp, Traband, Původní Bureš) and older styles. The specific sound and atmosphere is completed by acoustic instruments (saxophone, trumpet and accordion) and original lyrics by bandleader Pavel Helmut Kholl. The latest album release is a three-song EP released this year I'd play that, too. Besides frontman Pavel Helmut Kholl, the band consists of singer and accordionist Verka Hamouzová, bassist Aleš Lesoun Kopřiva, drummer Petr Hugo Šlik, accordionist Jiří Skála, tenor saxophonist Tomas Adolf Jirikovsky, trumpeter Lukas Halfar and guitarist Jan Sladek.
