SAKOBI trio (Spilka, Zapadlo, Kleibl)
Behind the name SAKOBI is a new project of the Vilém Spilka Quartet. In the band play saxophonist Radek Zapadlo on saxophone, Martin Kleibl on drums and Vilém Spilka, who for the purpose of the project SAKOBI replaced the guitar as his main instrument with the double bass, which he started to play during the pandemic of the coverid.
Last year the trio launched their debut recording released by Bivak Records at Jazz Dock. Stylistically, the album is more or less unclassifiable, drawing on the traditions of jazz and other African-American styles, as well as folk music from Moravia and beyond. SAKOBI is a unique project not only in its repertoire. The trio consisting of saxophone - double bass - drums is a relatively unique concept on the Czech scene, which provides space for intense musical communication and free expression of individual members.
