Argo: EXOTI (Stories about minorities based on true stories from the Memory of the Nation)

ARGO Publishing House and Memory of the Nation cordially invite you to the launch of Barbara Št'astná's book.

What is it like to be different from others in a world where conformity is the key to success? To be the only single mother in town, to speak a different language at home than at school, to love someone of the same sex, to go to church when everyone else is just sitting in front of the TV? Based on true stories from the memoirs of the nation's survivors, the stories bring together people who were different. Whether by their origins - as undeported Sudeten Germans, Roma or Jewish Holocaust survivors, by their appearance, faith, sexual orientation, disability or simply by their courage to stand out from the crowd and make a difference. Even if they didn't feel like heroes, they showed bravery every day just by remaining themselves, in the eyes of a grey society that had only derogatory names for them: elementals, pimps, Germans, gypsies, perverts, cripples, the weird ones. Just exotics.

The patron of the book will be Klára Šimáčková Laurenčíková and the evening will be guided by Patrik Banga.

Books will be available for purchase on site. There will be a book signing at the end of the evening.
