Seeing dense music

The opening of an exhibition of photographs by Anička Baštýřová, Karel Šuster and Roman Odjinud from last year’s Alternativa festival.

The Alternativa Festival is an annual showcase of bold, inventive and intense music. Boasting one of the longest-running traditions amongst comparable events in Prague, the festival has, since the early 1990s, sought to offer an alternative to the standardised line-ups of commercial festivals and to uncover previously unexplored connections between international and local artists.

Karel Šuster he sees, hears and hopefully photographs the music so that those who see his photos can hear it. Anna Baštýřová He prefers to photograph concerts, cemeteries, meadows and forests. He favours photographic impressionism over realistic photography. Ever since he started photographing concerts, he has come to detest the red glow of the stage lights. ROman: Elsewhere whenever he has time for it.

Following the opening, a Mexican cellist will perform Sofía Escamilla  and a German electronics engineer Mathieu Sylvestre.
