Next Hlavák station: one year since the invasion of Ukraine

It will have been a year since we woke up early in the morning on February 24th to a "new time". What most Europeans could not imagine for a long time has become our new reality overnight. The Russian army invaded Ukraine live on the air, triggering the biggest armed conflict in Europe since the end of the Second World War.

War refugees from Ukraine have set off for safety in all corners of Europe and almost immediately volunteers from the Hlavák Initiative began to attend to them at Prague's Main Station. For a moment it seemed that the people of the Czech Republic would show themselves at their best and that solidarity with the people fleeing the war would surpass all expectations. But then something happened... Ukrainian Roma women, most of them with their children, headed to Prague and the atmosphere of unbridled solidarity and understanding suddenly changed. The audio documentary "The Next Hlavák Station" follows two volunteers, Martina Vanikova and Marta Harasimowitz, on their journey through the tense situation at "Hlavák" in April and May 2022. Listening to the audio documentary will be followed by a discussion with the authors, characters and other guests.

The event is co-organised by KineDok and Čítárna Unijazz, partnered by Czech Radio and Czech Radio Plus.

Free admission.
