On Tuesday, 9 May, we will christen two novels by Jack Kerouac in new Czech translations together with the publishing house Argo. After a discussion with translators Michaela Markova and Vít Penkala, the band T.G.P., which is inspired by Kerouac in its work, will play.
On Wednesday we will welcome international guests! Songwriters Eamon McGrathh a The Hills Mover will play songs from their new EP Roaming, inspired by the memories of people who have made their way into their hearts and souls.
Thursday 11.5. will belong to the traditional chess tournament!
And on Friday we will have another concert - a double concert to be precise. Band Silence & Joy will play his songs full of joy and gratitude and Jakub Dash then she'll rock the house with her jazz-soul puns.
And of course our beautifully sunny backyard awaits you!
Berlin-Canada-Zizkov (direct connection)
The lights go out and the ubiquitous chatter stops. The last man in line walks away from the bar with a shot glass. The whole room is momentarily speechless before the dark bass begins to rumble. Elektrokohle fills the Reading Room with their dark melodies, joined by the frontman's insistent voice. "We're sorry we're late, but we are from Berlin," comes the apology that aptly describes the following performance, which seems to transport us to a backwater Berlin club. On the same unforgettable evening, Mr. Pink and The Bad Thoughts launched their new album, and Rány tela and others also played.
We won't be taking you to Berlin in May, but we invite you to come along anyway. Jack Kerouac's novels The Vision of Gerard and Maggie Cassidy have received new Czech translations, which will be christened by Argo on 9 May. The next day, Canada's Eamon McGrath and Belgium's Grégoire Fray will also arrive here as part of their European tour, where they will present their joint EP Roaming. You can also look forward to David Vávra, who this time will talk about his own architectural projects instead of Noisy Tracks, on 16 May. The end of the month will belong to the singer-songwriter Alen and David Pomahač in a joint concert on 25 May, and the following weekend to the neighbourhood festivities as part of the Žižkovskie Mezidvorky festival, for which we and our fellow Krenovka residents are preparing a varied music-dance-art programme (and if that's not enough, there will be food too).
Plates, plates, plates. Do you have any? Do you?
For the decoration of our lounge, which we are currently redecorating, we are looking for old, scratched or otherwise unwanted boards that we could use to cover the walls! You can leave the boards on the bar. The good feeling and our endless gratitude will not pass you by.

It's going to be a boring week in the Reading Room. April, hahaha.
From today our walls boast an exhibition by Tomáš Braun, What the Eyes Cannot See. The title is a bit paradoxical, however, because your eyes are immediately drawn to Tomáš's raw paintings with bright colours and vigorous strokes.
On Tuesday 4 April you can stop by for another Jazzmania by Vladi Kouril. This time the topic will be one of the most important orchestras not only of the 60s, but of the whole modern jazz history, led by trumpeter Quincy Jones. And of course not only that.
On Wednesday, our tables will once again cover the chess boards in another Unijazz Open tournament! Come and play, no matter the level.
And on Thursday, April 6, there will be a party in the form of the launch of the first mini-album by Mr. Pink and The Bad Thoughts. The band's garage blues is intertwined with cave-like moods and thumping rhythms à la The Cramps. Support comes from Rány Těla, Elektrokohle, Thee Lazy Eyes and Candy Flip Djs.
The new week started with Karolína Zoe Meixnerová with Mark Blažíček and their Egon and Honza. But of course, that's not all that awaits us this time!
On Tuesday 28 March you can look forward to the long-awaited discussion about the band Marsyas with Pavel Skala and Olin Nejezchleb! Tickets are currently sold out, but a few seats remain available for those who arrive without a ticket.
