Vlasta Pospíšilová was a Czech screenwriter, animator and director. She collaborated on many short and feature films with a number of award-winning Czech directors. She was a highly acclaimed animator, also on the international scene, especially in the field of puppet animation.

Gene Deitch was an American director and producer of animated films who lived in Prague for more than half a century. He started out as an artist for the music magazine The Record Changer. Later he made cartoons and commercials for United Productions of America. His film Sidney's Family Tree was nominated for an Academy Award in 1958.

Juraj Herz was a Slovak director, screenwriter and actor of Jewish origin. He came from a Jewish family, was baptized, then became an atheist. He studied photography at the School of Arts and Crafts in Bratislava and later directing and puppetry at the DAMU in Prague. In 1960-1961 he acted and directed at the Semafor theatre in Prague.
