Prague band Abigail Ybarra combines blues with rock into an original alternative mix. The name is borrowed from the woman who wound pickups at the American Fender company. Although the band stays true to its blues roots, it freely combines them with rock's wildness and rawness, and allows room for improvisation to flourish. The duo (guitar and drums) impresses above all with their musicianship, but it never serves a self-serving purpose - everything is subordinated to the overall energy and contact with the audience. For the orthodox bluesman, their approach may be a departure from tradition, but for the open-minded listener, an Abigail Ybarra concert is a riveting musical experience.
