Guest of Krenovka: Jaroslav Rudiš

Jaroslav Rudiš is one of the most appreciated and respected Czech writers, but he is also appreciated in Germany. For his book Winterbergs Letzte Reise (in Czech then Winterberg's Last Journey) from 2019 was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Award in the fiction category, and on 1 October 2021, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier awarded Jaroslav Rudiš the Order of Merit of Germany for his contribution to bringing Czechs and Germans closer together. Other prizes include the Chamisso-Preis/Hellerau (2020) and the Karel Čapek Prize, which he received in 2022.

Rudiš debuted in 2002 with the novel Heaven over Berlin. He wrote four novels and two novellas in Czech, which have been translated abroad and made into films. With artist Jaromír 99 he created the cult comic Alois Nebel. He is a member of the Kafka Band. He has also written several film scripts, theatre and radio plays.

At the evening at Unijazz, the author will read from his novel Winterberg's Last Journey and we'll be discussing his other books and activities.
