In September, a new introductory section Archeology of Czech Jazz Modernism 1948-1969 will be opened with examples of its swing background from the war years. Kaleidoscope will mark the late soul-jazz pianist and vocalist Les McCann's 90th birthday; saxophonist Branford Marsalis' tribute to Keith Jarrett's 80th birthday this year; trumpeter Ron Miles and guitarist Bill Frisell will play this time in a quartet; and we'll also commemorate the opening concert of this year's Craig Taborn Jazz Piano Festival. We'll close with the traditional September remembrance of Miles Davis' music - he passed away 34 years ago.
