Phil Shoenfelt & Southern Cross – acoustic

Phil Shoenfelt (UK) has lived in Prague since 1995. He has released more than twenty CDs, EPs, albums and singles – primarily with three bands: Southern Cross (Prague); Fatal Shore (Berlin); and Dim Locator (Berlin). As well as his music, Phil is also a published poet and author.

In the late 1970s, Phil was part of the British post-punk scene in London and Manchester. In 1979, he moved to New York and played his first gig at Max’s Kansas City. He then played in several bands, including Khmer Rouge and Disturbed Furniture. Khmer Rouge played regularly at the legendary CBGB’s. They also supported Nico, The Clash, Alan Vega, Tom Verlaine, The Gun Club and Billy Idol. Later, Phil embarked on a solo career and supported The Fall and Nick Cave on their UK tour.

The musicians in Southern Cross have a rich and varied background. Drummer Jarda Kvasnička and guitarist Johnny J. Junior played in the Plastic People of the Universe. Jarda and Pavel Krtouš (bass) played in Tichá dohoda. Pavel also plays with the punk band Vzpupný potomek, whilst Johnny plays in Jablkoň and the Bladderstones.

The concert at the Reading Room will be their first acoustic performance bands. The premiere will also feature some new songs.
