Radio 1 #4: Ondřej Štindl
V The Unijazz Reading Room will be hosting more events from the Radio 1 Close Up series starting in autumn. You can look forward to meeting Radio 1 personalities three times during the autumn, on Wednesdays: 16 October, 20 November and 18 December.
The first of the series, Wednesday 16 October, will belong to Ondřej Štindl. He was one of the founders of the radio and thanks to his family, the famous radio set came to Prague, which was later confiscated by the authorities, triggering a wave of dramatic events that eventually led to Radio 1 becoming the first Czech private station.
Ondřej Štindl had a number of programmes on Radio 1, probably the most famous of which was the Haunted Castle, making fun of normalisation pop. He still works at the station today and his weekend afternoons with sophisticated music are among the listeners' favourites.
In addition to Radio 1, Ondřej works as a writer and film scriptwriter. He won the Czech Lion and the Czech Film Critics Award for his screenplay for the film Handcuffs. He was nominated for the Magnesia Litera Award for his novel When Your Head Turns. So there will be plenty to talk about during the evening, both with the moderator Jerry Žák and with the visitors, whose questions are as always welcome!
