Words written in the sand

Launch of the book of translations Words Written in the Sand: An Anthology of Contemporary Arabic Novels in honour of František Ondráš, recently published by Argo.

We cordially invite you to the launch of Words Written in Sand, an anthology of eleven excerpts translated from contemporary Arabic novels. The book reveals the thematic and regional diversity of Arabic literature of the last fifteen years, during which the Middle Eastern countries have undergone a very turbulent evolution. It includes stories both humorous and tragic, from the distant and recent past and the very near future. The content of the evening will include an introduction to this unique work by the editorial team, commentary on the selection of the novels and the translation into English. An introduction to the internationally award-winning prose and the authors the anthology brings together will be complemented by readings from the book. The culmination of the evening will be a thank you to all those who supported the book's creation, and most importantly a celebratory toast and congratulations on the jubilee of doc. František Ondráš, to whom the book is dedicated.
