Talaqpo

Over the twelve years of its existence, the quintet Talaqpo has developed a distinctive sound that has gradually transformed from acoustic jazz-world music into experimental hypnotic math-rock. The compositions of their just-forthcoming fifth album are based on raw field recordings of chants from East African villages as well as carefully constructed rhythmic structures. Fragments of songs in the language of Uganda's Acholi tribe are interwoven with the five-piece band's distinctive musical language, whose backgrounds straddle different genres and ensembles. Pianist Vojtěch Procházka (Vertigo, Monika Načeva, Bansal trio), violinist Milan Jakeš (Maomah, Prague Quite Music Collective, Free Balkan Quintet), bassist Luan Goncalves (Jungle Debris, Tongu) and drummer Jan Chalupa (E Converso, JWQ) form a brilliantly pulsating ensemble, with the voice adding contours Lucie Páchová.
