ÚSTR - Jan Zumr, Jan Vajskebr: Gestapo

In December 2024, the long-awaited publication by Jan Vajskebr and Jan Zumr, simply titled Gestapo. In more than a thousand pages, the authors describe the development and organization of the Nazi secret police in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia and present an analysis of the career paths and other life fates of its members.

The book also contains more than two hundred medallions of the highest Gestapo officials who served in the Czech lands between 1939 and 1945, the vast majority of whom have been able to find previously unpublished photographs. Zumr and Vajskebr based their research, which lasted more than seven years, on original Nazi documents obtained from dozens of foreign and domestic archives, as well as on the latest scholarly literature.

"According to our educated estimate, the Gestapo made approximately 120,000 arrests in the Protectorate during the more than six years of occupation and played a key role during the state of emergency that was declared in the Protectorate after the arrival of Heydrich and again after his assassination," said one of the authors in an interview for the ÚSTR website Jan Zumr...

The publication of the book was supported by the Czech-German Fund for the Future.
