Remembrance of Libor Batrla
Commemoration of the graphic artist Libor Batrla on the occasion of the first anniversary of his death.
Libor Batrla was a prominent figure in the Argo publishing house. His name could be found in hundreds of published books that he planted or designed the cover of, but he is also the author of the Argo logo with the boat. He was a brilliant and reliable graphic designer and typesetter who knew his way around any conundrum.
From an interview for Argo publishing house:
You did the graphic design of the first Argo books and the logo. How did you get into it?
At that time, I used to meet Zdeněk Kárník (now publishing house Dokořán), who was a colleague of Milan Gelnar. Argo was preparing its first book, The Angel of the West Window by Gustav Meyrink. Zdeněk Kárník had a bet and connected me with Argo. So I visited the kitchen of the Gennars' then small apartment in U Družstva Life IV street and we agreed on the cover of the first book. And then we looked for a pub. I've been working with Argo ever since.
During the evening there will be a short projection of photographs and magazines, posters and books that Libor has created for the Argo publishing house. The musical accompaniment will be provided by Polansky versus Langman.
Free admission.
