Sound, gender, identity: book launch

Sound, gender, identity is the first monograph in the Czech language that deals with music and sound from the perspective of cultural analysis. It focuses primarily on the themes of gender and identity, which it explores in relation to various musical events from Central and Eastern Europe. The individual chapters focus on, for example, the Czech-Scottish composer Geraldine Muchová, queer aesthetics in Russian and Ukrainian alternative rock and pop, the performance of masculinity in extreme metal, feminism in the work of Slovak singer and rapper Sima, and the quest for authenticity in the learned interpretation of baroque music in the Czech Republic and folk revival in Slovakia.
