A forgotten tale of love, heroism and self-sacrifice

A graphic novel for young adults and adults The Idealist It tells the gripping love story of Jaroslav Klecan – a member of the International Brigades who fought in the Spanish Civil War, was held in French internment camps, and became involved in the domestic resistance during the Protectorate. In Spain, he met a young woman named Francisca, known as Paquita. Their letters were discovered decades later in Valencia. The comic is the result of twenty years of research.

The event will feature journalist and translator Daniel Ordóñez and historian Petr Koura.

The band Věčnaja rebelija (Soviet punk) will be performing.
