Janny's Hog Ranch + Band of Heysek
Janny's Hog Ranch is a band from Prague, whose frontman is psychedelic cowboy Janny Richter (formerly known as Jonny Richter and the Hog Ranch). They play a rough energetic fusion of rock and roll, disco, grunge and electro wave. Janny's Hog Ranch are ready to burn your house down.
The concert will also be a release party for the new album Delta Trash, whose godfather and special guest of the evening will be Phil Shoenfelt.
Janny Richter was born in Prague, but his heart belongs deep in the arid prairies and untamed plains of the American West. Starting out as a singer in a local band called The Star Rover in the 1990s, he left for the United States where he came face to face with American traditional music, delta blues, country and folk. Upon returning home, he formed a one-man band, Jonny Richter and the Hog Ranch, influenced by black bluesmen, folk legend Woody Guthrie, and close to the dark style of Tom Waits. From 2016-18, he lives in Montana, where he is recording a record called Butte America. In 2021, a record called Put Some Hog On It was released on the Poli 5 label. Currently, Janny has completed his second studio album and is about to hit the concert stages here and abroad with his new band, Janny's Hog Ranch.
Band Of Heysek is a bunch of guys who compose and play their own animalistic, blues-tinged, raw and dirty songs. Debut album SHOVEL & MATTOCK (Indies Scope 9/2017) received very complimentary reviews and opened the gates of clubs and festivals for the band. In spring 2019, they recorded their second album in the Orlické Mountains in the woodsy atmosphere of a log cabin I'M GLAD I MET YOU (Indies Scope 9/2019), which features a guest appearance by Sarajevo-based keyboard wizard Omer Blentić, and a lot of the material has even asked to be released on vinyl 2LP.
In the autumn of 2018, they accompanied a trio of bluesmen from Mississippi (Kenny Brown, RL Boyce and Robert Kimbrough) on a mini-tour of the Czech Republic with a stop at BluesAlive in Šumperk. In the summer of 2019, on the other hand, they headed to their home festival in the USA, the North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic. The welcome into the local blues community is indeed very unique and was an indescribable experience and inspiration for the three European blues enthusiasts. At the end of their blues journey, they visited the Water Valley recording studio with two distinguished guests - Kenny Brown (longtime bandmate of RL Burnside) and RL Boyce (2017 Grammy nominee). From the recording sessions, the band prepared two separate albums for release, the first of which "R.L. BOYCE & BAND OF HEYSEK feat. KENNY BROWN - JUKE MY JOINT" will be released in April 2020, the second one titled BAD IDEAS then back to Indies Scope in November 2020. The "American" albums have attracted interest in a number of countries. Interviews and radio playlists have been requested in Beijing, China, France, Spain and Belgium.
Since their formation in 2015, they have been performing in clubs and festivals in the Czech Republic and abroad. They have opened for The Smokie (2015) and The Animals (2018). The last "notch" so far are occasional performances in the form of the backing band of English rocker Phil Shoenfelt. Currently the band is preparing new material and planning to record a new album.
